NOVEMBER 2020 BLOG – Giving and Giving Thanks through An Extraordinary Season

The list is long in 2020…the COVID 19 Pandemic, having to social distance, financial insecurity, job loss, social justice protests, REAL violence on TV and online, continued killings of our black men and women, working from home, homeschooling, lack of day care, mental health challenges, the presidential election, sickness, the loss of loved ones, facing the unknown….it has gone on and on this year.

With all that we are experiencing in 2020, giving and giving thanks will be challenging this holiday season.  We are getting through but our family holiday gatherings will be different for sure.  How are you and your family planning to make this holiday season special?

Lori: I think it’s very important that we don’t stay shut-in this holiday season but we have to stay safe.  I don’t see the big gatherings as something we should be doing but we are missing that social connect we are so used to.  I think what I’m missing the most is HUGS.  I want to hug my family, be in the kitchen helping to prepare dinner, play dominoes, watch the kids open their presents, sit around the table after prayer, eating and talking, laughing and being lighthearted and then getting full and being uncomfortable (LOL).  We have been stifled by this pandemic so I’m just hoping that our holidays will be some reflection of those past.  We will definitely gather, cook and enjoy each other, and I’m hoping to extend the gathering by connecting online with those we cannot gather with to give them a smile, a virtual hug and tell them they are loved.
